I have a Intergas Combi boiler, model HRE 24/18 and I observed that during last days the heating is no so strong/hot as it was. Went to see if there is an error message on the boiler, and unfortunately there is error code 5. Any idea how to fix it without calling for an expensive service guy?

Hi Tom,
Error 5 means poor flame signal. Check the following: condensate pipe, main gas pipe and if there is nothing stacked there, simply reset the boiler. If sth is stacked- remove it, clean the pipe and put boiler back to operation. For cleaning I would call a GSR specialist, as it may be a dangerous to play with gas pipe yourself.

I have a Intergas Combi boiler Compact 36/30 model. It is 3 years old and is situated in the utility room. During the last 3 weeks I observed that the heating and hot water are getting on and off regular without a particular trigger. Any idea what is wrong?

Hi Dan,
Your description isn’t to detailed, but if you have heating, hot water getting on and off without trigger, no special sound and boilers keeps the ignition, then my guess would be a gas valve. Intergas boiler valve is build from rubber and unfortunately after a period of time (usually warranty period of time) it tends to react badly to the boiler internal heating. Rubber gets sticky and the boiler shuts for about 30-40 min to cool down, then it picks up the work again. Try exchanging the gas valve and if you are lucky your repair will close in about £150.

I am in very uncomfortable situation. I build a new house, which is almost ready, there are only few things that need to be done left. Last week I have purchased Intergas HRE 18 OV, and GSR guy can’t make it work for more than a week… Maybe I should add that the boiler is installed on an open vented system. I purchased and installed 11 new radiators. The whole system is an open vented system and we decided to use F/E tank. Boiler either doesn’t fire up or fires up, but only for about 5 min, and then GSR guy can’t put it back to service for hours. Anyone an idea what can be the issue?

I would call the Intergas and make a warranty claim. I am sure in this case they will send someone who will investigate the matter. I would suggest circulation or electrical issues, but really don’t waste more time or energy with the GSR guy, and go directly to Intergas people

I have a Intergas Combi boiler, model Compact HRE 18. It is an old boiler, almost 7 years old, but was always doing fine. At last till today, when we realized that it is making some strange noises (other then normal) when we open the taps. Noise is really loud. Boiler is displaying error message 8, and when I restart it, it works for a half an hour or so, but then again noise starts and the error message appear. Anyone knows what that error message mean and how to fix it?

Hi Joe,
Error 8 means “incorrect fan speed” and in case of 7 year old boiler I would say that it needs replacement. With younger boiler I would suggest checking fan wiring between fan and casing- especially if boiler was serviced in last 2 weeks. Good luck!
Hi Folks,
I have a Intergas Combi boiler that is almost 5 years old. It was always working fine, but today we woke up and it was very cold in the morning- we realized first that there is no heating, then I checked the taps and another bad news, hot water is gone too. I went to utility room to check what is wrong with the boiler and it is not working/reacting to anything, it displays error message 4. I tried restarting- but no success on operation pick up. Anybody knows what error 4 means and how to fix it fast?

Older Intergas Compact Combi boilers are known for having issues the ignition module or/and the gas valve. Usually it is a gas valve that effects the ignition module. If that the case both will need to be replaced. As it is not an easy job I would recommend you to call for a Gas Safe Registered specialist, it is 2-3 hours job and you will have your heating and hot water back.
